Speaking of colorful, this July I will be racing for the charity, Open Your Heart To The Hungry And Homeless. This fun run is called The Color Run and is worth checking out if you are into unusual races.

Keeping It Simple

With so many great quilting patterns to choose from, it can be difficult to pick just the right one for your quilt. More often than not, simple is best. There is no pattern more clean and beautiful than a meander. Check out some of these great examples of what the meander pattern can do for a quilt.

Speaking of keeping it simple, I just wanted to share a couple photos from my trip to Jamaica and Haiti. Life can’t be more peaceful nor simple than spending time with family on a beach in Haiti or with the locals in Jamaica. Life moves just a bit slower (no cell phones, computers or deadlines to worry about). In Jamaica, our tour through a sugar cane field was halted when our old yellow school bus got stuck in a muddy rut. The leader of the group echoed what all of the locals were saying, “No problem, just a situation.” She was right. With many laughs and smiles, we made it to the top of the hill and continued on our tour. Now that I’m back in Minnesota, I am trying my best to keep it simple.

This picture does not do Haiti justice. The island was breathtaking.

Project Linus

I want to make a quick post about an opportunity to share in a great organization in the Rochester area. Rochester’s very own Project Linus chapter was started in January with a strong turnout. With many volunteers quilting, knitting and crocheting blankets for nine local groups of people in need; Project Linus has been an amazing outlet for creativity and compassion. Please check out the website and let me or the Project Linus Rochester chapter coordinator know if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.

Here are my first batch of blankets to be donated to Project Linus. Most are fleece blankets with crocheted edges.

A New Year, A New Look!

We’ve moved!

We finally finished moving! I never want to move again. It is the worst! A one year old boy has an awful lot of baggage. Toys, toys, toys! A husband that does pottery has a bit to move too. A kiln, four pottery wheels and a thousand pounds of clay neatly packed in fifty pound boxes. Thanks to the clay, I’ve rediscovered my arm muscles. Then, this weekend, we moved the biggest toy of all, the quilting machine. It took a large trailer and four fantastic people to get the beast moved. But, now it is home in Stewartville and we are happily quilting.

Our new number is 507-398-4268!

Summer around here can only mean one thing – jam-packed weekends. I will not be at the Stewartville drop-off/pick-up on Saturday mornings until July. Sorry for the inconvenience. Hope you enjoy your busy summer too!

I should win an award

I really should win an award. Unfortunately, I already know what the trophy would say, “World’s Worst Blogger”.

I can already picture my acceptance speech. “I am so honored to be here tonight to accept this award. With so many bloggers on the web, it is surreal to learn that I am the worst. I have so many to thank. My dog Olive, for always wanting to go outside the minute I sit down to work. My son, for taking up 98% of my time. Of course I can’t forget to thank streaming Netflix for making me believe that watching every episode of “Cheers” is a good idea. But, most importantly, I must thank myself for making excuse after excuse to not blog when I know I should.”

I have made a mid-year resolution to blog more consistently. Hopefully my life in Wykoff with a husband, baby and dog and provide a laugh or two.

Maybe my next award will say “Mediocre Blogger”. Baby steps!
